The best ways to get your questions answered is to ask our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Adam L. Basner during a cosmetic consultation. Please call our office at 410-616-3000 to arrange your appointment.
Am I a facelift candidate?
If you are unhappy with the way aging has affected your face, then you may be a good candidate for rhytidectomy (facelift) surgery. Depending on the facelift technique you and Dr. Basner choose, your procedure can improve your face by softening midface sagging, crow's feet, folds around your nose and your mouth, jowls, a double chin and a sagging neck.
How long is the recovery from a facelift?
Your recovery can vary, but generally you can expect to return to work within 10 to 14 days. Most bruising and swelling should go away within two weeks. For two to six weeks after the procedure, there are certain physical activities you will have to take a break from. Dr. Basner and our staff will provide you with complete aftercare instructions so you know how to heal successfully.
What is the right age for a facelift?
There is no right age for a facelift. If you are an adult and think you may benefit from the procedure, you can discuss the best ways to rejuvenate your face during your cosmetic consultation with Dr. Basner. If you are in your 20s, 30s or any age beyond, Dr. Basner has the experience to help you decide if a facelift or another rejuvenation procedure is right for you.
Does a facelift leave noticeable scars?
Like most plastic surgery procedures, rhytidectomy does leave scars; however, Dr. Basner knows how to use incisions that leave the most minimal, most well-hidden scars. In a traditional facelift, incisions will be hidden within your hairline and behind your ears.
How much does a facelift cost?
The cost varies widely and is influenced by factors including geographic location, specific surgeon and facelift technique. The only way to get an accurate estimate is to visit our office for your cosmetic consultation. When choosing a surgeon, remember to consider the surgeon's credentials – including board certification and plastic surgery training – in addition to cost. Cost should not be your only deciding factor.
What are the risks of facelift surgery?
Complications from this procedure are rare, but are a possibility just like other surgeries. Dr. Basner does everything possible to provide the safest care, and he will explain all of the risks to you and what you can do to prevent them.
How long will my facelift results last?
The longevity of results does depend on the technique used. A full, standard facelift has results that will permanently turn back the hands of time, although your skin will not stop aging naturally. You will notice a return to sagging several years down the road, but it will not be as dramatic as it would have been without the facelift.
