Summer is around the corner — is your body beach-ready? Rather than turning to extreme diets or an intense workout regimen to sculpt your figure, consider augmenting your healthy habits with plastic surgery. Liposuction is a safe, effective treatment designed to target stubborn pockets of fat that may be resistant to diet and exercise.
What Is Liposuction?
Even the healthiest of adults still struggle with fat in their:
Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that can eliminate pinchable fat in these and other areas of your body. It works by permanently removing fat cells in treated areas, enhancing your natural curves for a shapelier and more toned form.
The treatment is best for adults who are at or near a stable, healthy weight. It’s not recommended if you have loose, sagging skin, and it cannot change the appearance of cellulite or stretch marks. However, liposuction can complement many of our other body contouring procedures to help you achieve your beach body.
If you have specific cosmetic concerns that you’d like to address before summer, schedule a consultation with Dr. Basner. During your initial appointment, he will discuss the best treatment options for you.
Timing Your Liposuction Surgery
Most of our patients return to work within a few days of their liposuction surgery. If you’re planning to take time off work for a summer vacation, consider how additional days off for the surgery could impact your schedule. If you have the procedure going into a long weekend, you may be able to minimize the number of days you have to take off work.
Post-surgical bruising and swelling will be evident in the first few weeks following liposuction. While bruising tends to subside early on, swelling can last four to eight weeks. After three months, you should begin to see your final results.
Since it can take several months before your body is completely healed, it’s best to schedule your procedure as soon as possible. This will help ensure that you’re fully recovered and ready to enjoy your body come summertime.
Your Body After Liposuction
While liposuction is not a weight-loss method, it does reduce the number of fat cells in the treated areas of your body. Liposuction provides lasting results for patients who continue to maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle after surgery.
To keep your body looking its best following liposuction, you will need to:
- Exercise regularly: Find a sport, fitness class or workout you enjoy. Make movement a routine part of your day to keep fat from accumulating in non-treated areas of your body.
- Eat a healthy diet: Lean protein, fruits, vegetables and whole grains will keep your body full and nourished. This will expedite your surgical recovery and help you maintain your liposuction results long-term.
If you follow our recommendations and schedule your procedure soon, your body should be ready to show off this summer and all year long.
