Time is running out to put the final touches on your holiday preparations, including for your appearance. While you can get a facial or a manicure the day before a big party, a little more time is required if you plan on having something like BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, or even a chemical peel.
Non-surgical procedures are a popular way to rejuvenate the appearance during the stressful holiday season, and while they require much less recovery time than surgery, you should still leave yourself some time for full results to become apparent and for any bruising or swelling to dissipate.
Here are some popular non-surgical procedures and how far in advance you should book your treatment for optimal results.
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport are both effective for smoothing out wrinkles in the forehead, between the brows, and at the corners of the eyes. However, they do not work instantaneously. For BOTOX®, you should leave yourself at least a week for results to begin to appear. Dysport results may appear slightly faster, often within three to five days.
These treatments are good for:
- Reducing wrinkles on the upper half of the face
- Correcting a gummy smile
- Slightly raising the eyebrows for a mini brow lift
Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers
HA dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane work instantly, providing volume in order to plump thinning or sagging parts of the face. Despite seeing immediate results, though, you should plan to have fillers done between three days and a week prior to your big event. This is because HA fillers can potentially cause bruising and swelling that may take some time to subside.
Some areas of the face are more prone to swelling than others - for instance, the lips tend to swell a lot, while nasolabial folds may not swell much at all. Dr. Basner can let you know approximately how much swelling you should expect and how long it may take to subside.
HA fillers can help to:
- Plump the lips
- Reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds
- Enhance the cheekbones and chin
- Fill hollows in the temples
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a great way to refresh the skin before a big event. If you have a light peel, you may be able to attend an event the next day with makeup coverage of any redness. However, medium and deep peels will require longer recovery times. These peels can cause significant sunburn-like redness and peeling that may take up to a week to resolve fully.
Chemical peels can address:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Age spots
- Uneven skin tone
- Acne scars
