Hi, I’m Dr. Adam Basner and I’m a board-certified plastic surgeon. In this video I’m going to talk to you about a breast lift, also known as a mastopexy. I find sometimes people are confused about who is the right candidate for a breast lift. A breast lift is perfect for someone who is generally happy with the volume of their breasts, it’s just that, without a bra, they find that everything has dropped down south. Now some people wish to be larger and lifted and that would be a breast implant with a lift. Some people want to be smaller which would be a breast reduction with a lift. But many people are very happy with their size and simply wish to have the breast reshaped and this is known as a breast lift procedure. In many women, over time, the breast drops down. What is really happening is that the skin envelope or the skin brassiere is stretching allowing the breast to fall. A breast lift is designed to remove that excess skin, to reshape the skin brassiere, to hold the breast in the proper position. Recovery from a breast lift is typically very straightforward with minimal discomfort. Most people take less than one week off work. Because we are simply readjusting the skin envelope, the function of the breast should be completely intact with normal sensation and the ability to breastfeed. The major issue with breast lift is the incisions. It typically goes around the areola, down the middle of the breast and underneath the breast in the crease. This incision typically takes one year to completely fade away. Please take a look at my before and after photographs. If you don’t notice the incision, it is probably about one year from the surgery. If you do, and you see slight redness, it’s probably about three months from the surgery. Remember, scars fade over time but a poor shape will stay with you forever. If a breast lift is right for you, and you’re interested in achieving beautiful, natural results, please contact my office for your own consultation. Thank you.
